Maria's Tank

Maria strutting her stuff in her latest creation. With a few suggestions from Roisin she was off and running.  Believe it or not, she used an acrylic/polyester sock yarn 'Hot Socks Portofino' by Grundl.  The top only used two and a bit 100 gr balls.  Looks fantastic, summery and cool! 

Savary Island Clammer for Mylee

Goodness, I am behind on posting! I just came across this photo that Roisin mailed to me on July 11 just after she got back from a trip to Montreal. 

It is Roisin's gift for her daughter-in-law in Australia, Mylee (the top, not the hat).  She used acrylic and polyester sock yarn, Hot Socks Portofino,  and 3.75mm needles. She started this project before leaving for trip to Montreal with daughters Maura and Triona.  It's the same Savary Island Clammer pattern we showed you a few posts back and is a Roisin original.  
The knitting was done on the ferry to Comox, plane to Calgary, and transferred to the plane to Montreal.  It hung out in Montreal for 5 days with Roisin, Triona and Maura and was completed on return journey.  Mylee's present soaked up the holiday and will be flying to Australia later this month with lots of energy and some attitude.

Maria's Clammer

Maria took on a pattern testing for The Savary Island Clammer'.  She knit this using 100% cotton and it sure turned out well.  Just a couple of tweaks and the pattern will be ready to go. This was a quick knit (says Roisin...for me? Not so quick) on 10mm needles for the bottom part and 8mm for the top.  Maria did have to sew the top onto bottom, but Roisin has now figured out how to 3 needle bind off, ABSOLUTELY NO SEWING!

Roisin's Clamshell Shell

Clamshell. A new design and pattern from Roisin (with contributions by Brenda)..a knitted Art piece inspired by ocean lapping on the sand at Savary Island.

Knit with cotton blend, and big needles. Great for summer wear. I think it would be lovely for summer wedding wear.

Sea Fair 2013 Top

We hope you got out and enjoyed some or all of the Sea Fair events...we could not have asked for better weather! The parade was fun, the fireworks were excellent, and the acrobatic plane was amazing.

Elfrieda, wearing her version of the Roisin's Chantal Shawl pattern.  This one knit with Magico II Sock yarn.  Elfrieda crocheted a nice fancy edge around it.  And there is another one in her green and yellow projects basket, which we will show you when it's done.

Susan's Crocheted Top

Susan crocheted this beautiful top with Sirdar Snuggly Bamboo (80% wool, 20% Bamboo)  Lucky person who gets this!

Fly Away, Silver Top

The silver top - made with Gemma by Roisin - has found a good home.  Its new owner has plans to travel with it to sunnier climes (and it looks great on her).

Mystery Customer, Expert Knitter

Some of you, our dear customers and yarnistas, prefer not to be identified, except by your work.

So, here is Mystery Customer's creation, using two different yarns, Mohair from GBOW was used in the fuzzy random stripes.  Very 80's looking, very "IN" - and cozy.

Mystery Customer again, another creation.  This time with Sirdar Rafaella, DK.  Acrylic and cotton.  Comfy, pretty summer shell.

How's this for gorgeous??!  Clearly Mystery Customer is a very skilled knitter.  This was a Vogue magazine pattern, again using Sirdar Rafella DK.  So light, lacy and lovely.

And again.  This knitter does knit in the summer, and clearly is well-dressed.....another beautiful summer shell in Sirdar Rafaella DK. 

Sharon's Triumphant Return

This is definitely a "Yes, You Can!!" story. Sharon recently took up knitting again after a 40 year hiatus. And, boy, did she dive right back in!

This stylin' top was Sharon's choice of pattern to make the dive with (I have to think that Sharon's level of accomplishment 40 years ago was pretty good!). The yarn is Delave Superwash Filati FF, made in Italy. We love this! We did decide to change the buttons though. These are gorgeous but take over a bit, so smaller, rectangular ones were chosen. We'll show you how these look, so stay tuned. 

But Sharon kept going...this lovely tie-front cardy/wrap will be given to a lucky daughter-in-law for Christmas. It is knit with Noro Vintage. 

And finally, not content just to take up knitting again, Sharon took Marlaine's crocheted "Bum Warmer" class and clearly is a proficient and prolific crochet artist. She made her grand-daughters bum warmers with matching hats and leg warmers from Marble Chunky. Very nice! And one 200g ball is plenty for one bum warmer. 

Way to go, Sharon!

Janet's Summery Top

Janet made this pretty strawberry ice-cream coloured top with Sirdar Surfer Ribbon Yarn....Roisin's comments to me were..."very economical" (this must mean not much yarn is needed to make the top) and "looks much better in the finished product" (which must means the yarn knits up to look better than it did in the ball).
I have to agree...it looks very nice.

Brigitte's Top

Brigitte made this beautifully knit 100% Linen, raglan sleeve top. We apologize that the photo is not beautifully taken, Brigitte...the settings weren't right on the camera. Readers will have to trust that it is well crafted , in addition to being soft and comfortable.

A Favourite Spot

Lynda is often to be found sitting on the stool in this spot in the store, organizing and pricing yarns, or in this case, working on her baby surprise jacket. On our left (her right) is the easy, summery long top/short dress knitted by Roisin from Gemma by Alessandra Filati, 100% Polyamide, in a colour called Caribe--no wonder, as it looks like the ocean in the Caribbean. And it is a perfect match for the turquoise hat knitted by Lynda. 

Simple Summer Top

Roisin made this fetching garment from Louisa Harding, Kimono Ribbon Yarn and used 2 50g balls. There is a variety of ribbon yarns available at the store if you fancy making a simple summer top. Roisin or Lynda will guide you to something lovely!

Unique Top For Sale

Roisin knitted this top from Laines du Nord Amerino (58% cotton, 42% acrylic...bulky weight), and Sirdar's Baby Bamboo (a bamboo - wool blend, DK weight), and then added fluffy, frilly scarf yarn for the trim. She says this would be a good fit for a generously endowed woman. If this looks like spring to you, it's for sale at the store.

Mary's Silvery, Summery Top

Love this (as in, I would like to own it). Mary knitted it for her lucky daughter. This is the same pattern, different yarn.

Summery Top

Here's another version of the easy, sleeveless summer top even beginner knitters can tackle. It's all garter stitch, and no shaping. This one is made NY Yarns Tropical Silk (60% cotton, 30% viscose, 5% silk, 5% acrylic). It took 4 50g balls which are $7.49/ball. The pattern is available for purchase too.

Dreaming of Summer

Some of us are slow knitters, so it is not too early to get started on an easy, pretty summer top. It is knitted in one piece with Orchidea ribbon yarn. Roisin made the sample, and the pattern and many ribbon choices are available at the store.
