Evening Classes!

You asked, we deliver! At long last, evening classes, with Marlaine, are happening.

Marlaine will begin weekly classes on Wednesday November 21st, from 6 pm - 7:30 pm. Participants will be making one "Spa Cloth" (aka "dishcloth") per class, similar to the ones in the photo. These squares can indeed be used as dish or spa cloths, but you can stitch them together to make a pillow cover, a throw....you decide! It is a great way to learn new stitches and patterns. 
The cost is $25 per class. Or--such a deal--bring a friend and the cost is just $40 for the two of you. Please use yarn you have purchased at GBOW.

And, Marlaine says, if you want to learn how to knit, this is an excellent class to attend as she will teach the basics of knitting continental style. Did I say this was an excellent deal?

"OK, Now Knit Two..."

Marlaine is a great teacher, and here she is guiding a student in the finer points of creating a cabled Spa Cloth this past week. 

We call this a "Spa Cloth aka Dish Cloth" class but it could just as easily be called "Knit An Afghan Square by Square" or "Baby Blanket Squares". The products of Spa Cloth Class can be turned into anything that can be made with...squares! Which are such an easy and portable way to work on what could be a big project--and are a really great way for someone to learn to knit. So, if you have someone in your life who might like to learn to knit, wouldn't Spa Cloth Classes be a great present? That way you get to give an experience--the gift that keeps on giving!

Cables

Two examples of cables here. 

One is the Cable Spa Cloth Marlaine taught people how to knit in her class today--and what an easy way to learn to knit cables. 

The second is a customer's sweater-in-progress, made from Hayfield Bonus Aran (80% Acrylic, 20% Wool). It is knitting up very nicely, soft and squishy too! 

Reminder! Spa Cloth Class Tomorrow

Marlaine will be holding the Spa Cloth Class tomorrow (August 21) in the Loopy Lounge from 1 - 3pm.
Learn new stitches and patterns in an easy-to-complete one afternoon lesson.
Then make stacks of them for gifts, or sew them together for an afghan, or....??

July Cable Spa Cloth Class

Here it is!  Your opportunity to try out and experience knitting a cable without the commitment of a huge project.  Honestly, it's not as difficult as it may look!  This will let you know whether or not you'd like to incorporate cables into a larger project.  Can't you see this design down the fronts of a cardigan?  Or, what's your inspiration?

Next "Spa Cloth" Class

Marlaine's next "Spa Cloth" class will be Tuesday, June 12th, 1 -pm in the Loopy Lounge. Participants will learn how to make the circular cloth using "Shorts Rows"--and if you don't know what this means...take the class!
$25.00 for the afternoon, plus 1 ball of yarn.

You will learn to make an approximately 8" x 8" cloth that is too pretty to call a dish cloth and if you knit it in a colour that coordinates with your 'Spa' bathroom, then it's a Spa Cloth!  
Why would you want to come to this class?
1) You'll learn some new techniques that you can carry over into your larger knitting projects. 
2) It's a chance to explore and experience a pattern that you might be afraid to tackle otherwise and you'll take the pattern home with you. 
3) Start with the Spa Cloth and turn it into a scarf, sweater or what have you! 
4) You'll spend two hours having fun with a group of knitters who share your passion to create.S
Please be a confident beginner knitter, who knows how to cast on, cast off, knit and pearl.

Linen "Spa" Cloth

This is a very simple, garter stitch cloth, knit from Katia Lino 100% linen. This was a bit of an experiment, to see how the linen knitted up for a cloth. It was (for this not expert knitter) a tad fiddly--very thin, no stretch--and needed to be blocked. But it is a lovely texture, scrubby when dryish, and soft when wet. It dries very quickly. This, and the 100% hemp yarn Roisin has, would make very elegant and useful cloths.
