Suzan came to work today as a blonde. We thought she'd
look even better with sari silk braids. (Pippi Longstocking?) And aren't they a gorgeous colour?

Shetland Ponies Wearing Shetlands
What else would Shetland ponies wear but Shetland sweaters? (Or jumpers, as sweaters are called in the UK). And why are they wearing them? The VisitScotland web site says this, "We've got our very own Shetland pony ambassadors who are helping promote the Year of Natural Scotland with beautifully created cardigans, made just for them. Ponies Fivla and Vitamin from the Thorndale Shetland Driving Centre, strike a pose with their new winter woolies. Local knitter Doreen Brown created these knitted jumpers from Shetland wool. Why not find out more about art and culture across Shetland?"
There is a video on Youtube of the ponies being dressed in the cardigans. Here is the link. VisitScotland

Happy Seasonality
I justify sharing this short and funny video with you because one of the singing dogs is wearing a sweaterish thing!
Dogs Sing Silent Night.
(And it is a brilliant example of clever marketing...it is a company produced video, yet the branding is just there...not in your face. But you can bet I will remember the company....)

Felted Mask
Lynda disguised as "Mother Nature" (what? You thought she was of human form?!) ....modelling my (Alane's) Halloween costume. The felted and yarned mask was purchased when Roisin and I went to Knit City, from Melissa of Soulfibre Studio (she makes amazing masks as well as other cool felted items) and I made the poncho thingy which was great fun because it didn't matter really what shape it became or if I missed a few stitches.
And here is the best-dressed lamp in Powell River, in the Loopy Lounge. Will it catch on fire? I do hope not...that mask is a work of art! The poncho? Not so much. But fun.

(Super)men Knitting
Susan spotted this, and after a little sleuthing* for the origin (just to be sure we weren't breaking copyright. Found here) here's a nod to our male knitting colleagues.
My long-time friend Nigel, an expert knitter, rummaged around for me.

More on Dogs--and Men Who Knit
I can hardly wait to see this whole book of knitting for men and dog companions. Roisin sent me a few more photos....just way too silly (IMO). Cute dogs though.

Roisin on the Road
So after some adventures, Roisin is in Vancouver prior to catching a flight to Oz. She emailed me and said she had some time on Commercial Drive, and found this book. She bought it, thank goodness.

Where Were the Knitted Evening Gowns?
Perhaps you watch the Academy Awards. Perhaps you scour the web for pictures of the dresses worn. Maybe both! But have you wondered why none of the gowns are knitted? Cast your eyes on this ensemble from the 1930s.
Gwyneth Paltrow could have worn this!

Or maybe this!
In case you feel like getting a head start on your knitted New Year's Eve party dress, here you can buy a pattern book of "Vintage Evening Fashions to Knit".

Puppies or Yarn?
We've been tidying up the GBOW blog and notice a trend...what does it say about the universe when people coming to a yarn store blog look at puppy pictures more than yarn pictures?
Roisin posted a lot of very cute puppy pictures back in the early summer...and the page views for these are higher than for pictures of lovely yarns and what is made with them. Does it suggest we should always post cute puppy (or kitty) pictures along side the lovely yarn pictures? Hmmm. How about cute puppies wearing lovely yarn? That has to be a winner!

Happy New Year!
Great Balls of Wool blog is baaa-ck! Things got very busy and the wooley blog just did not get added to as other things needed attention. So, the blog languished but we hope to be here way more often with up-to-the-minute info on new yarns, new classes, and sheepish musings.
May the fleece be with you!
