Another Wendy's Shawl

Another Wendy recently completed this lovely lacy shawl, a beautiful complement to our new Soxy Lady yarn, 25% alpaca.  Soft and very special.

Roisin's Shawl

Roisin sent one of her special shawls via daughter Maura and sister Dara who are visiting Aunt Lorna in the U.S. Lorna is in her 90s and looking great, wrapped in Rosin's woolly love!  

Sidhe Haps

Mary wanted to be beheaded for this photo, but couldn't take her head off without losing some of this soooo beauuuuuutiful Sidhe Hap, knit in class, using Malabrigo Rasta and handspun yarn.

Wendy was in the same Sidhe Hap class and knit her absolutely gorgeous Hap with Alpaca and two different skeins of handspun with stunning results, don't you agree?  We're impressed.

The Sidhe Hap (like the Chantal Shawl) is Roisin's design and pattern.

A Fast Knit

This is a 'yes you can' knit.  Big yarn, big needles, 24 sts.  4 balls of yarn - a couple of hours and you're done (Or if you're slow like me, a weekend). Pop by the store to get all the details.

Roisin Is Weel Happit

Roisin's latest, a Shetland Hap*.  The pattern is being written at this very moment (by Roisin...and honestly, "this very moment" was a while ago so may be done already).  Sorry, this gorgeous yarn is ALL GONE, but you can knit it with anything.  Perfect for those cold backs of necks and shoulders.  There's a longer story, stay tuned.

*A hap is a wrap or shawl. Indeed, the word common to Scottish (including Shetland) and Northern English dialects, means to wrap, to cover, or conceal. And definitely to keep warm.

Julie's Moebius

Julie finally finished her Moebius, started last Oct with Jude Skeers. She brilliantly chose the hottest day of the year to model it. Someone is going to be wishing for cold weather soon.

Quick Shawl

This black shawl is Roisin's latest, using big needles and big cotton/acrylic, for a fast knit.  Olga shows it off well!

Petra's Shawls

Two beautiful shawls knit by Malabrigo lover Petra (and who doesn't love Malabrigo). They speak for themselves--and no doubt feel lovely.

Patti's Shawl

Patti's showing off her glorious Chantal Shawl (Roisin's design/pattern which is available at the store).  Patti added her own touch with the fringe. Perfect for this sunny day! 

Knit with a Noro yarn that is no longer available--but there are many other choices.

Alane's Cowl/Shawl

Showl? Chawl? 
Roisin says, "Alane's classy gift for a lucky friend turning 60.  Nice work and design. Congrats Alane....yet another FINISHED masterpiece!  More to come...." 
The pattern is called Starshower by Hilary Smith Callis,  and is available on Ravelry.

Yarn is 50% merino and 50% tussah silk, Zephyr Lace weight (knit doubled).  Olga does a lovely job of showing it off.  

Yes, I do have a finishing problem.

Dara's Birthday Shawl

Stefanie and "The Bump" modelling/showing off Roisin's latest Jude Skeers design Circular Shawl Knit with Noro Taiyo Sock yarn.  It's a 3-way shawl!  One way, then upside down way, then head through the armhole asymmetrical way.  Gorgeous anyway!  It's a gift for Roisin's sister Dara's 65th.  Roisin owes her a party!

Jeannie's Shawl

Perfect yarn for the perfect moebius.  Nice work Jeannie!

The Möbius Mavens

Thursday's Möbius Class was a Very Special One for Jude because they are ALL knitting "throwers" (moving the yarn from the right hand to the needle) as opposed to Roisin's way of knitting which 'they' call hooking and which some call continental where the yarn stays in the left hand.

Not sure who wins what, but it gave us a lot of laughs.

Accomplished knitters all!

Lois's Finished Shawl

Lois's mohairy elongated shawl gets its own post because she finished hers! Glorious and such a great colour on her too!  Congrats Lois.  First to finish - you win! Not sure what...but perhaps a Big Gold Star from teacher.

So Much To Finish!

There were a lot of shawls being knit in classes with Jude this past week. (So many great colours!) Some were elongated, mohairy ones (like Fern's we showed you yesterday) like these "in-progress". The first one is Therese's.

 The orange one is Nigel's and the pink, Alane's.

Jude and Nigel at the end of mohairy wrap class, still friends after rousing discussions about pattern making and knitting techniques.

Fern's Elongated Shawl

Fern, the amazing weaver and spinner, pretty in her pink mohair shawl, knit during Jude's class*.  She did an incredible job for a supposed 'non-knitter'.  We're not convinced, Fern. 

* I, on the other hand, a supposed knitter, only got about 3 inches on my shawl knit during the class...so slow am I! Not Fern though.

Pretty Jenna's (and our latest GBOW employee) very first modeling job!  Diamond Luxury Alpaca Handpaint was used to create this lovely garment.

Jude's Tri-Wrap for Karyn

I discovered I've never posted this photo of an interesting 3 sided wrap that Jude Skeers knit for a friend of his. Looks tricky to me!

Jude said, "288 stitches on 10mm needle, decreasing at 3 points.

It is 1.5m on each side."

Charlie's Shawl

Headless Charlie showing off her beautiful Verdi knit-with-beads shawl. Such a nice use of the yarn. By the way, Verdi now discontinued, and there are two balls left at GBOW!

And This Is....?

Maybe a skirt, maybe not.  This began life as 'The Ol' Doll Shawl', over the head and around the shoulders.  Idea by Patti, designed and knit by Roisin for the residents of our care homes.

Then Olga needed something to cover her 'waist down' so it's now could be a skirt as well.

Patti is working the idea through, final pattern will probably have some moss stitch or seed stitch around the bottom.  Come check it out and give us your thoughts.
