Photo Shoot

This might do it for items in my Forgotten File. And the photos have been languishing, un-posted for almost a month.
The photo shoot was organized by Bill and Raji from Shaw Cable as a promotion for Blackberry Festival and Art Alive in the Park, promoting the Art of Knitting, Wearable Art
Carola is the model. Raji is the photographer. Roisin is the knitter/designer.
Roisin's favourite photo is the one where Carola and Raji are smiling at Lynda who's taking the photos.

The Italian Sock

You remember this...the beginnings of Roisin's entrelac sock, knitted in airports and on airplanes, en route to Italy to meet up with her daughter and grandson.
And here it is finished. Roisin says, "ONE entrelac sock finished!!  Let's hope it's not doomed for the 'lone sock orphanage'.    It fits nicely, started with entrelac toe and shaped heel with entrelac as well.  Will be recording what I do with the next sock.  In my sock vision the colours all stayed in their own entrelac squares....alas...they had their own agenda. Never having been a colour inside the lines person, I understand.
On to the next."

And what else did she do and see in Italy? Well, here are the only photographs she has sent me, documenting her trip (other than the one in the previous post). See if you detect a theme...
The happy travellers...

Bet you didn't know centurions carry cell phones these days, did you?

This enterprising fellow apparently was having a little trouble balancing this big mattress on his head...

So, this second fellow who just happened to be exactly the right height stepped in..er, under to help.

The theme? Men's legs, I'd say...

The Great KIP Happening 2013

Well, yours truly, your Blogger-in-Chief, was AWOL for this fun event. Quiet house, grey day, tired person = epic unplanned nap in my knitting chair. Sigh. Anyway, lots of people were more with-it than moi, and here is the proof. But I can't ease the suspense and tell you who won the Great Dish Cloth Race because Roisin hasn't told me yet! (Serves me right for missing this....)

World Wide Knit in Public Day -Sat June 8 2013 at Great Balls of Wool - Downtown Powell River
Brownie and her friend. Brownie apparently refused to stay for Dish Cloth Knit Race (possibly knowing the competition she faced in Elly and Marlaine...)

Marlaine starting her Dishcloth for the Race - judging was by amount left at the end -  Marlaine suggested starting with a very very very long tail! Clever....!

Denise chose the bright fuschia pink yarn and had her needles sharpened ready to go.
Elly decided to use 2 colours and make a brioche stitch dishcloth.  Can't wait to see this hanging on our Art Laundry Line!
The Race is On! (And doesn't that yellow rose look nice?!)
Marlaine engrossed in her knitting
Baby Robert - 2 weeks old - put in an appearance and charmed us all.  Mummy got to do a bit of knitting and we got to do some baby holding. Here's Susan getting some baby cuddling time.

Jude Skeers' Webs

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that Roisin has been on a serious Moebius  wrap knitting streak, and has been teaching a class in knitting a circular shawl. Both are based on patterns by Australian Jude Skeers. Jude sent Roisin photos of beautiful knitted webs he has made...there are two included here.

And this is what the Orana Arts site, in New South Wales, has to say about his work.

"Jude Skeers is a self taught Textile Artist who works exclusively with hand knitting. He has been knitting since his youth and has had several major exhibitions of his knitted webs, trees and other sculptures. He has exhibited his work over a 30-year period in galleries all over Australia. He has also worked as an Installation Artist and teaches workshops. Jude has specialised in circular knitting. In the last few years, he has developed a range of wearable pieces using his specially designed circular needles. In more recent times he has designed a number of garments for which he has written the patterns. These garments have included Moebius knitting. Jude's hand knitted, one-off garments have evolved from his artistic knitting. He enjoys incorporating a variety of yarns and stitches into his designs."

Yarn Swap Goodies

Here are a few photos from the Swap Meet today. Kevin wondered if "Yarn Mob" might have been a more appropriate term as people came, saw, and gathered. We agreed that next time we will encourage people to hang about and exchange yarns (sorry...baaaa-d joke).

Thanks to everyone who came and for bringing something for the Food Bank. I have a big bag of food in my car to drop off. And thanks to Sherry and Pat for hosting.

Elfrieda is on a baby hat 'kick' - These ones are made with Sirdar Snuggly Crofter - a nylon/acrylic blend (and it is snuggly..very soft). We love pompoms!

This is a 'boy' hat, made with Sirdar Escape DK. Nice decrease job on the crown, Elfrieda!

Cathy from Texada sent Roisin this cute photo of her cat Pebbles, enjoying some nice yarn. Cats really like to "help" with yarn projects, don't they?

Baby's Hat

This hat is going to Dover, New Hampshire which is not too far from the Atlantic coast....and it is cold and damp in the winter. So this baby girl, due in a couple of weeks, is getting a warm hat--and a wonderfully soft one. The yarn is Mainland Worsted Yarn, Plymouth Earth Collection, 80% Baby Alpaca, 20% Silk. Lovely to work with...and discontinued, I think.

Marlaine's Latest Hat

Marlaine's work-in-progress hat.  Maybe this will start a new fashion with the needles sticking out of the top?  This is Noro Silk Garden Lite with different colours of mohair mixed in (no surprise there..."Mohair R Marlaine"). Beautiful!

Liz's Shawl

Liz showing off the gorgeous shoulder scarf she made with our Queensland Bella 100% wool, thick and thin.  Doesn't it look totally YUMMY?

Possum Poncho

Another Chantal Poncho by Roisin.  She reports this was like knitting with spider webbing.

Made with Zealana Air, lace weight.  Cashmere, Silk and Brushtail Possum Down.  Warm, light and airy for sure.

More Exclusive Yarn From Danika

The second batch of unique, exclusive to GBOW hand-dyed sock yarn, by Danika.  Only 10 skeins each time....grab them while you can!

Carola Is Busy!

Another look at Danika's unique "Special GBOW" yarn in the baby hat, and booties in Drops Sock yarn, both knitted by Carola.

Happy Ending

Remember Pat's yarn winding mess?  This is how it's all coming together.

The Winner!  With two toe tips already crossing the finish line, this will be the first pair of socks made with Danika's first batch of exclusive-to-GBOW yarn.

Looks much better, doesn't it?

Random Yarn Bomb

I (Alane) spotted this garland of maple leaves wrapped around a stop sign at the corner of Westview and Kamloops on Tuesday. So nice to come across random yarn bombing!
The leaves were beautifully made...

It's All In The Fingers....

Suzan - Studying the intricacies of Invisible Cast on.  So invisible, you can't see it yet.

Carola's Almost Done Socks

Dedicated Sockista Carola putting finishing touches to socks--two knitted at the same time.  At this moment, she is doing the crochet cast off, next will be the afterthought heel. Carola has a great trick for keeping the two balls of yarn separate from one another....she sticks the balls into the socks. Because they are knit from the toe up, they make little bags very early in the process. Ta-da! Instant yarn holders.

More next week--when she's finished!
