Closed Monday

It's the long weekend! A reminder that the store will be closed on Monday (and Sunday as usual) but open again on Tuesday at 11am. If the weather has you thinking about indoor activities, GBOW is open today until 4.

A hat would be a good project for the weekend.  This is Brandon's first knitting project - we're impressed!  Knit with Galway Chunky and following Roisin's directions (no pattern) he quickly knit this to his specific taste.  Looking into our crystal ball we see many brilliant projects in his future knitting life!

Tla'amin Knitting Class Wrap-Up

The Tla'amin knitting group wrapped up recently - a good time was had by all. And a lot of people learned to knit.

Makaila, Jody and a bit of Angus.  Makaila is the youngest Roisin has ever introduced knitting to, and she's amazing!  Jody is working away on her cowl, and doing very well.
Bonnie was bored, and checking her phone.  However, Bonnie has produced lots and lots during this class. She deserved a break. Angus has advanced to a new level too. A born knitter, that fellow is!
Pat, Donna and Rose concentrating on even more new stitches and new patterns.  It was hard for Roisin to keep up with their speed of learning.
Esther and Jolene working away, and Amy giggling while she works.

Judy's Cowl

Judy's very first project - another (can't go wrong with) Malabrigo Rios.  Judy has returned to knitting and learned continental style AND finished her first project in record time.  Stay tuned for more from this knitter!

Rose's Toque

Rose's Slouch Toque fits perfectly, and it's her very first knitting hat project.  Queensland Rustic superwash yarn was used, on 4mm needles.  Love the way the colours pop in the finished tuque.
We're impressed.

Donna's Toque

This nice hat was hot off the needles when Roisin took the photo; you can tell by the end that's not sewn in yet.  This is Donna's very first slouchy toque.  A difficult knit in Stampado, superwash yarn with many strands of colour, but she DID it!  Colours and style suit her well.

Jolene's Cowl

Very pretty! Jolene with her first cowl.  She's looking pleased and so she should be--what a great colour.  We're glad she found the time to work on this.  A stunning achievement all round.

Sosan Switches

Sosan switched to continental style knitting and loves it.  She's knitting a hat in  Extra Stampato Merino. Such vibrant colours.

Donna's Cowl

Donna's Marble Chunky cowl completed. It's her first EVER knitting project, and she is moving quickly onto her next.

Tla'Amin Knitters Group

Roisin is teaching a beginning knitters' class in Tla'Amin on Wednesday evenings...10 adults and 2 children. I (Alane) went along this past Thursday to help out. Keen bunch...so fun to bring along all these new knitters.

Dorothy is finished her first project already. Here's her lovely cowl/shawl which matches her sweater perfectly. Congrats, Dorothy! Next, a hat.

Sam's Cowl

Sam learned to knit and make a cowl at the same time, because it was the only way she was going to do it!  This is ONLY her 2nd cowl, knit with Diamond Baby Alpaca Sport (many knitters' fave) and gorgeous, soft, cuddly, warm etc. etc. etc.

Sam's Cowl

Sam has just learned to knit.  Her first Cowl using Mega Rustic on circular needles has turned out wonderfully - all things considered - and looks very cozy.
You go, Sam!  We look forward to seeing the next project.

Bye Stefanie...

Ask and you shall receive...or, be careful what you ask for... This afternoon I asked Roisin if perhaps she had some photos for the blog as I hadn't posted any in a wee while. Whump! Kajillions of megabytes later, I have photos for you.
Here we go....

Beautiful Stefanie showing off her beautiful Malabrigo Rios Cowl.  Stefanie, Nick and 'the bump' have moved away from Powell River.  She's already missed at GBOW.  However, we taught her to knit so she's well equipped for the rest of her life!  AND, she's already in love with Malabrigo.

Another of Stefanie's new knitter creations.  Scarf knit with Ella Rae Mega Chunky. Very warm.

Sophie And Nari Learn To Knit

Gaye's lovely granddaughters Sophie and Nari spent some of their holiday time here with Grandma and Grandpa learning to knit.
Roisin says they were a 'treat to teach'.  Sophie completed her toque in a few very quick lessons, Nari did very well, and is almost finished hers.  Expect amazing knitting from them in the years to come!

Ella The Star

In our Beginner's Knit and project class on Saturday mornings we have a young star, Ella.  She is nearing completion on her very first hat.  Next week, decreasing.  She learns so fast she'll soon be catching up to Carole, not-so-new knitter.

Carol's Shawl

Newish knitter Carol has been producing one amazing project after another.  Here's her triangular shawl, knit with Punta sock yarn.  Not an easy task for a new knitter.  We're looking forward to see what comes next.

Mami's Cowl

Mami was here in Powell River learning English, and she also learned to knit a-la-Roisin at GBOW.  Now she has headed home to Japan with her new skills plus a gorgeous cowl.  Congrats Mami.  Great student!

Happy New Year--And A January 3 Class

Hello GBOW followers and customers! Happy 2015. May there be skeins and skeins of lovely yarn in your next 363 days.
And if you'd like there to be lovely yarns and knitting in the coming year, but you need a refresher or "right from the beginning" help, we can do that!
Tomorrow (January 3)from 11-1, Roisin will be teaching the first session of the Beginners' Class. You can start tomorrow or indeed any Saturday...skip a class. You decide.
It's only $60 for 4 two hour classes. We do ask you use yarn purchased at the store...but 1 ball will get you (or someone you know?) going on a lifetime of enjoyment.

Brenda Beginning Socks

Brenda, new Sockista, is learning the invisible cast-on with the "Edward" twist.  She's knitting her socks with Drops Delight in lovely bright colours for winter. We like the colourful glasses too.
